UNESCO to join search for pyramids in central Bosnia

SARAJEVO,Bosnia -The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will join Bosnian experts in searching for what is believed to be one or more ancient pyramids in central Bosnia, the Bosnian Presidency said Friday in a statement.

The chairman of Bosnia's presidency, Sulejman Tihic, met with UNESCO director-general Koichiro Matsuura in the Croatian coastal town of Opatija, the statement said.

Tihic informed Matsuura about progress at the site in the town of Visoko where the structure was found and Matsuura promised to send soon a group of UNESCO archaeological experts to investigate the find.

Earlier this week, an Egyptian geologist and expert in pyramids, Aly Abd Alla Barakat, said the discovery of treated stone blocks confirmed the existence of a pyramid.

Barakat found two polished, sculpted stone blocks that might prove that a highly-developed ancient civilization built the structure under what is now Visocica Hill near Visoko.

Some interesting similarities between Bosnian and Egyptian pyramids:

A group of local and international experts began three months ago a thorough study of Visocica, which they believe may conceal a quadrilateral pyramid.

Earlier this year, preliminary findings from sound scans and satellite imagery of the terrain offered evidence that one or more pyramids may have existed in Visoko, some 30 kilometres north of Sarajevo.

The scans showed clay, polished stone pieces and stones with metal traces believed to be man-made.

Remote sensing by satellite, artificial illumination and radar topography showed geometric features that seem to be positioned in a triangular form, matching the four sides of the world.

The discovery of the site has caused a surge in the number of tourists in Visoko.

Last weekend alone, more than 10,000 tourists visited that tiny central Bosnian town, tourist authorities said.

[b]The Bent pyramid's satellite,Egypt:

The satellite pyramid of the Bent Pyramid rose 32 metres high, but thanks to height of 105 metres of the Bent one, it appears very small. The purpose of a satellite pyramid was to shelter the ka of the pharaoh. The ka was the life force of the deceased, and continued to live in this world.

Pyramid of Amenemhet 3,Egypt:

Amenemhet 3 was a pharaoh of the 12th Dynasty and ruled for 46 years, from 1831 until 1786 BCE.

Of the 3collapsed pyramids at Dahshur, the one of Amenemhet 3 is the most remarkable. It is also called the Black Pyramid, but the black granite that surmounted it is now in The National Museum in Cairo.
Today it really doesn't look much like a pyramid, it resembles a mountain. Too much has simply fallen off. The pyramid was originally 80 metres tall, with sides 102 metres long. All in all, it was an example of bad construction and the use of easily accessible but inferior building material. Good on Amenemhet 3 that was not buried here after all, but at Hawara.

Pyramid of Sesostris 3 ,Egypt:

Sesostris >3 was a pharaoh of the 12th Dynasty and ruled for 40 years, from 1870 until 1831 BCE.

The pyramid of Sesostris 3 was 77 metres high, but of this even less remains. It looks more like a sand dune. If you can make it out in the sand, it is part of quite an impressive funerary complex, with several tombs and a couple of sanctuaries. In the National Museum the most attractive sight of this complex can be seen, the jewellery of Sat-Hathor and Mereret.
