BOSNIAN CHAMPIONS F.C. SARAJEVO PROGRESSED TO UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND

SARAJEVO,Bosnia - The Bosnian Champions F.C. Sarajevo lost the second leg of their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie at home to the Belgian champions F.C. Genk – but progressed to the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round thanks to the two away goals they scored in Belgium last week.

Strikes from Admir Raščić and Veldin Muharemović in a 2-1 victory had left Sarajevo well-placed to become the first club from Bosnia to contest the third qualifying round since F.C. Željezničar in 2002/03. And despite Tomislav Mikulić giving Genk the win in yesterday's return leg, Sarajevo will now have the chance to better Željezničar's performance by overcoming F.C. Dynamo Kiev and reaching the group stage.

Genk, needing to score twice, began brightly and home goalkeeper Muhamed Alaim had to be alert to deny Balázs Tóth; at the other end Marko Maksimović dragged a shot wide of the near post. Still in the ascendancy at the start of the second half, the visitors made the breakthrough on 58 minutes when Mikulić headed in Alexandre Afonso Da Silva's free-kick. However, the Belgian side could not get the second goal that would have taken them through – Elyaniv Barda having an effort saved by Alaim – as Sarajevo held on for that date with the Ukrainian champions.

BOSNIA BANS IMPORT OF MEAT FROM GREAT BRITAIN

SARAJEVO,Bosnia - Bosnia's veterinary authorities have banned the import of meat and cattle from Great Britain following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease there, Bosnian media reported. The reports quoting the deputy manager of Bosnia's Veterinary Administration, Nihad Fejzic, said the decision was made after the disease was confirmed in Britain and after the European Union declared Great Britain a "high risk" area for foot-and-mouth disease.

At the same time the Bosnian Food Protection Agency warned that the country's market had been brimming over with low-quality and potentially dangerous food products.

According to Bosnian media reports, the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) said a number of products should be immediately withdrawn from stores in Bosnia.

The list includes sugared pineapple from Germany which contains large amounts of the food colour E 110 Sunset Yellow FCF, Italian ice-cream, mouldy Polish juice or Polish turkey meat infected with salmonella.

The parasite Anisakis, the report said, was found in hake's roe from Spain, while Chilean frozen mussels were hiding bacteria, such as E. Coli (Escherichia Coli).

Consumers in Bosnia could also buy Spanish or Belgian candies filled with plastic pieces or Czech pizza with mushrooms and bugs.A special warning was issued last week on Chinese chewing gum with a special purpose. Allegedly the gum does not protect teeth.
