MOTHERS OF SREBRENICA AND ZEPA: STATE AND WORLD INSTITUTIONS HAVE AGAIN HURT SREBRENICA

SREBRENICA,Bosnia – Members of the “Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves” Association reacted after Thursday’s lineup of the Serbian fascist "Ravna Gora Chetnik movement" in Srebrenica by an announcement stating that only a day after the July 11, Serbian fascists triumphed over the sorrow of the Srebrenica mothers.

”By allowing chetniks to lineup and hurt the dignity of genocide victims, the state and world institutions watched again Bosnians of Srebrenica suffer”, they stated.

The Association stated that the 1995 scenario which took place is shameful, to say the least.

”Ratko Mladic’s entering Srebrenica in 1995 is devastating for all Bosnian citizens. Thursday’s orgies made by chetniks lead by Milorad Dodik is also devastating. Dodik, unlike Mladic, hides his chetnik orientation behing a diplomatic mask”, the Association announced.

They emphasized that injustice has once again been approved by silence and that Srebrenica has been betrayed once again.

The Association members urged the international officials to condemn the shameful act. They expect the international community's High Representative Miroslav Lajcak to sanction political leader of the Serbians living in Bosnia ,Milorad Dodik, for supporting Serbian fascists.

7th MEETING OF THE INTERNTIONAL ASSOCIATION OF GENOCIDE SCHOLARS (IAGS) ENDS

ILIDZA,Bosnia – The 7th meeting of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) ended after five days in Ilidza.

“Besides presenting the results of their research, the scholars also have the task and ‘holy duty’ to influence politicians and major powerbrokers. They need to warn them of this worst evil that has struck humanity so that they can take appropriate action, primarily on recognising that genocide could happen in a certain country, especially at a time when there is proof that if has been committed, and on preventing it and punishing the perpetrators”, Director of the University of Sarajevo’s Institute for Researching Crimes against Humanity and International Law Smail Cekic said at the end of the conference.

Some 500 leading international and BiH scholars have during the five-day meeting discussed issues concerning the research of holocaust, genocide and other forms of crimes against humanity and international law in the entire world, placing the emphasis on genocide committed against Bosnians during the 1992-1995 Serbian,Montenegrin and Croatian aggressions against Bosnia.

The University of Sarajevo’s Institute for Researching Crimes against Humanity and International Law organised the meeting. Its Director Smail Cekic said that he is impressed by the scientific approach to research and that fact that the meeting has drawn the presence of leading scholars from various fields.

“The Institute comes out of this meeting with stronger experience, which it will use in the implementation of various scientific research projects, including activities on the establishment of international postgraduate and doctoral studies, which will be based in Sarajevo. "VOICE OF SILENT MAJORITY" SURVEY RESULTS PRESENTED

SARAJEVO,Bosnia – Results of a survey conducted by the Oxford International Institute, financially supported by the Oxford International, were in many aspects surprising for everyone.

The survey was conducted on 3.580 Bosnian citizens and the whole project was entitled “Voice of Silent Majority”. The results were presented at a press conference by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Christine McNab and her Deputy Stefan Preisner, as well as the Ambassador of Holland Karel Vosskuehler.

The study shows an interesting contradiction related to the average satisfaction of citizens with their lives on the one hand, and with the situation in Bosnia on the other.

Three quarters of the Bosnian citizens interviewed stated to be satisfied with their lives but are of the opinion that the situation in the country is very bad.

They added that Bosnia is stagnating and 70 per cent of the Bosnian citizens are of the opinion that the situation in Bosnia is the same as it was one year ago.

9 out of 10 people believe that the public sector is corrupt and more than two thirds of them think that the international organizations are corrupt as well. However, they could not give any concrete examples of corruption.

Almost 9 out of 10 people accept the Bosnian identity .Only 14.2 per cent of the Bosnian citizens (mostly Serbians and Croatians living in Bosnia) identify exclusively with their religion and ethnicity.

Social trust has decreased in Bosnia; only 7.2 per cent of the Bosnian citizens are of the opinion that others can be trusted.

Relationship between the voters and political world is not based on active interest and public One could say that non-engagement is the basic characteristic of relationship between the citizens and politicians. No other country in transition has shown so little interest in politics. That lack of interest is mostly shown by young people in Bosnia.

Most Bosnian citizens are ready for changes. Nine out of 10 people favor the “great change”. Half of them rejects the Dayton Constitution and three fourths of citizens want the government system changed in Bosnia. However, opinions among the peoples differ.

Most of the people think that young people are the biggest hope for future. 71 per cent of the Bosnian citizens believe that the future of the country lies in the EU.
